Today, Adelaide extreme metal outfit Freedom of Fear announce their new album Carpathia will be released Oct 21 via EVP Recordings. The band share first single Zenith, an intense force of nature which combines tech-death, black metal and melodic death metal influences. Featuring German tech-death legend Hannes Grossmann (Necrophagist, Obscura) on drums, and the world class mixing of V. Santura (Triptykon, Dark Fortress), Carpathia bridges the gap between old-school sophistication and modern punch.
“Lyrically it explores the effects of consuming a ‘magic potion’. Set under a full moon on the coast, the subject goes through a psychological transformation, facing their subconscious thoughts and underlying animalistic instincts. The lyrics largely personify the ‘zenith moon’ as a perceived source of both wisdom and danger” – guitarist Matt Walters
Since launching their debut album Nocturnal Gates in 2019, Freedom of Fear have made a name for themselves in Australia’s metal underground through touring with Fleshgod Apocalypse and supporting other heavyweights of the genre such as Jinjer, Thy Art Is Murder, The Black Dahlia Murder, Revocation, Obituary, Ne Obliviscaris, Aborted, and The Ocean.
With respectful nods to everything from Cradle Of Filth and Morbid Angel to Obscura, the band harnesses virtuosic ability to rival the excess of the greats of yesteryear, and a classy sensibility that enables them to maintain an acutely modern relevance. The music is of the highest class and will no doubt put Freedom of Fear squarely on the metal map.
The band have also announced an album launch show in their hometown of Adelaide, with more dates to be announced soon. Stay tuned for more news on Freedom of Fear.
