Artamene – Ziggurat (Album Review)

Release Date: January 21st 2022 - Wormholedeath Records

Artamene – Ziggurat

Artamene surely knows how to mix different elements: you’ll bang your head, you’ll be taken into the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, and you’ll be lost in the maze of the never-ending, ever-changing riffing patterns, and then you’ll throw mayhem into the pit with some crushing breakdown.

The album needs quite some time to grow on you, in the sense that it’s one of those releases that you first wonder whether that’s really something you’d listen to, and you think maybe that’s just one more random band.

But you’re served with all you need: epic solos, clean guitar riffs, as well as the previously mentioned heavy chugs and punches.

The use of the bass, its tone, and the place it takes in the mix is one of the main components of a good metal album in my opinion.

It’s hard to categorize this album, but it has all it takes to be labeled extreme metal. It’s definitely an interesting discovery, which leaves you hoping for them to mature as the releases go on, and improve some aspects of their music.
