Carnation – Where Death Lies (Album Review)

Belgium heavy hitters Carnation showcase their new aural soundscape in their upcoming release Where Death Lies out via Season of Mist. If there is one album you buy this year, make sure it is this one.

The rhythm guitars have the Heaviness of Death with the speed of thrash, with the lead guitar creating a sound that can only be described as mind-blowing and brutal.

A deep distorted groove comes from the bass, which during the leads create a headbanger moment.

Thrashing drums are relentless as they cause absolute destruction with the utilisation of blast beats and nicely clashing of cymbals.

The vocalist has a great range of harsh screaming and guttural growls, creating a unique vocal style that gets the blood boiling.

The production of this album is flawless allowing me to dive deep into every moment of this album, which had me hanging on the edge, just waiting for the next riff, the next guttural scream. There is not a moment that doesn’t have some intimate written instrumental, making this a 5 out of 5 roo’s release, but instead of roos, let’s make it 5 resurrected skulls.

You can catch the single ‘Iron Discipline’ while you wait for Where Death Lies release date of September 18th 2020 via Season of Mist.
