Chris Maragoth – Tales (EP Review)

Release Date: November 26th 2021 - Independent

Chris Maragoth - Tales

I really like the ideas in this release, but they are very different from your riff-hit wonders. Tales seems to be like the tavern songs of a D&D Bard who has a tendency to score metal. Each track is a short story about 3 different life experiences and is named accordingly.

Sonically it’s got lots of medievalesque instrumentation with some tasty metal guitar over some operatic female vox on track one “tales of a girl”. The other two tracks are a mix of instruments and cinematic sound effects.

The arrangement opens with a song featuring vocals, scene two is a more turbulent instrumental and the closing track is more classic instruments with gloomy creepy kid sound effects.

I feel like this would be a hit with my friends in the D&D community for its bardic stylings and dramatic flair.

If you like:  I’m not as immersed in this music scene to be more critical, but I feel like it could find some appreciation in the RPG community as its epicenes could accompany your next quest.

Haters be like:  A very cinematic musical project, but if you have a short attention span and a tendency to only like Mega Riff breaks you’ll be left wanting.
