Lions Of The South – Chronicles of Aggression (Album Review)

Lions Of The South - Chronicles Of Aggression

DISCLAIMER: Heavy face-melting riffs abound on this release. You have been warned!

The riffs remind me of early Metallica and Megadeth. Thrashy and aggressive as all hell. These guys seem to know a thing or two about song construction with great use of tempo changes.

The last 2 songs on the album are epics with a running time of 7+ minutes each. They have great middle sections which again are reminiscent of what you would hear Metallica do on a lot of the early stuff (don’t know if they’ve done this on any post-black albums as I stopped listening after that) although I definitely think Metallica did it better.

The final song “Countdown” is where the Metallica influence comes through the most. With an interlude section that sounds that similar to the intro riff of “Wherever I May Roam”. If Lars were to hear it he’d have his lawyer on the phone ready to sue before the song gets to the 2nd verse.

Not sure what else to say about it. Overall a very strong debut from these guys which I’m sure will win them more than a few fans. The only thing left now is for them to meld their influences into a sound that is more their own.
