Melbourne alternative rock trio Colourburn share second single, Folded Letter from new EP, ‘Compromise In Colour‘, out Friday November 24. The trio will share their new collection live supporting Better Half this weekend in Melbourne.
Depicting a struggle with self identity, isolation and the ever-longing desire for deeper human connection, Folded Letter was introduced via triple j short.fast.loud on Wednesday and showcases the trio’s alternative edge, drawing on influences from the likes of Movements, Stand Atlantic and Holding Absence.
A fresh-faced Colourburn arrived on the scene in September bringing emo energy and post-punk grit to the forefront. Their debut and leading single Star explores love and loss and the complex emotions that surround the process of a break up. Star has been described by Kill Your Stereo as “Melbourne’s hottest new alternative rock/grunge band”, triple j’s Steph Hughes as “Sonically soaring” and The Point Music News as ‘... one hell of a debut from Colourburn”.
The band will play Melbourne’s Leadbeater Hotel this Saturday November 11 supporting Better Half as they launch their EP ‘One Day You Won’t Wake Up‘, presented by Resist Records and Destroy All Lines. They’ll be joined by Brisbane’s Sunbleached and fellow Melbourners Days Saints. Tickets on sale now!
Colourburn welcomed Christopher Vernon (Better Half, Bloom, Belle Haven) to the team to produce, mix and master ‘Compromise In Colour’ and they joined forced with Martin Wood of Int Digital (Void Of Vision, The Last Martyr) for videos and visuals.
The ‘Compromise In Colour’ EP is an encapsulation of creative exploration, diving into a diverse range of concepts and themes across the five tracks that make up the collection. “We didn’t really go for a single pointed direction, we just went with what felt right,” tells the band. “The meanings behind each song vary from heartbreak to feeling out of place.”
Forming while in the throes of the pandemic in 2020, Colourburn is Jordyn Briggs (vocals), Jack Gray (bass) and Josh McIntosh (guitar). The three-piece built their musical foundations playing in previous projects and connected over shared mutual interests to form Colourburn.
A cathartic process for founding guitarist Josh, the ‘Compromise In Colour’ EP spawned from a place of rediscovery, where the love of rock and alternative music powered a passion to create and connect. Beginning with riffs that had long been stored as notes and voice memos from years before, Josh rejuvenated, polished and collaborated with Jack and Jordyn to complete their debut EP.
Taking their time to craft a collection of work that fully encapsulates the bands identity, the trio have created a five-track extended release that’s set to appeal to fans of punk rock power with alt-pop sensibility.
Folded Letter and Star are available now and streaming everywhere. The ‘Compromise In Colour’ EP will be available everywhere Friday November 24.
