Crimson Chrysalis – Crimson Passion Cry (Album Review)

Crimson Chrysalis - Crimson Passion Cry

Crimson Chrysalis is from South Africa and all members of this band have been involved in a wide range of music from classical, folk, and rock/metal. Crimson Chrysalis have wanted to bring something different into the South African music scene with their album “Crimson Passion Cry” fusing rock/metal with symphony much like bands have done in the past such as Nightwish, Epica, etc.

“Crimson Passion Cry” is an album like all from the Symphonic genre and it would appeal to some fans as well though I found the album took some time to get into it. There are some high points and some great orchestral moments but it felt more of an Adult Contemporary than a Symphonic Rock/Metal album. As a big fan of the Symphonic Metal genre, this album does fall flat as it does not have the same power and passion as previous bands, the guitars are weak though there is some good moment of soloing towards the end of the album.

Crimson Chrysalis has a very good singer you can hear the passion in her lyrics also and she can grow and be a big strong point in the band.

As a fan of classical music, this is a good album but as a metal fan does fall short of a Symphonic Rock/Metal album. This album does have its strong points but overall its missing some power. Another fan may enjoy this album as Crimson Chrysalis does have a lot of talent which can only improve.
