Legend – Spirit (Album Review)

Legend - Spirit

My 1st thought when I loaded this up was that there has to be some mistake there are 5 songs but the running time is a touch over 60 minutes… but no there’s no mistake here we’re talking about some serious Prog/Symphonic/Celtic Metal here. The shortest song on here has a running time of 6:55 and the longest one goes for 18:22!!

I must say I enjoyed this release but it seems there’s always a but. This time around it’s simply the length of the album. After the halfway mark it does start to get a bit same-ish. Beck Sian has a great voice that would sound great singing Irish ballads about fairies and pixies etc. and does a brilliant job on these songs. Apparently, she is also related to Kate Bush in some way and you can certainly hear a bit of Kate Bush in her voice and singing style.

The keys which are played by Steve Pain are very prominent in the mix just as they should be on a release like this but I would have liked to see the guitars get a bit more of the spotlight being the guitar nut that I am.

If you’re a fan of European-style metal with plenty of keyboards, orchestrated vocals, and a healthy dose of double bass drums then this release should be at the top of your to-get list. Overall a very strong release by these guys I just think they needed to trim the fat slightly.
