Dvne- Cycles of Asphodel

To celebrate the first anniversary of their seminal Etemen Ænka Album, Edinburgh’s Dvne has presented a very special live EP full of interpretations of tracks from that album that includes Lissa Robertson on vocals and violin.

As a special on-off-live session Cycles of Asphodel is remarkable.

For the fan it is confirmation of their greatness for the uninitiated it is a presentation of their power, subtlety, and the many textures that coalesce into their musical form.

Part Progressive, part Post all atmosphere ‘’Omega Severer’’ and the simply incredible ‘’Satuya’’ represents the band’s duality and the ability to intricately weave their gentle melancholy with supreme heaviness and to present it organically. This is music that enters your core being and creates a positive reaction, the maturity and musical dexterity on display without peers and confirmation that this is a band unafraid to experiment.

The result is truly moving. It’s all about textures and counterpoints, the down-tuned offset by the organic violin, the harsh offset by the gentle, the recording is excellent and is a genuine reward for the fan-made with much love and effort. The gentle breeze that is “Asphodel” is breathtaking.

At only four tracks’ Cycles of Asphodel is far too brief but makes a lasting impression.

Dvne creates excellent music in whatever form it is presented that is exciting, intense, and original.
