Woslom – Evolustruction (Album Review)

Woslom - Evolustruction

4 piece thrash from Sao Paolo, Brazil

This is their second album, and they have developed from the uptempo riffing of “time to rise”. The time to rise album put them among “best of 2010” by various sites and magazines, so they deserve to be taken seriously.

The title track opens with a heavy, more deliberate type of chugging rhythm, and has more of a melodic feel than the nearly punk/yelled anger of time to rise. While they have explored the musical element a little more this album, haunted by the past shows they can still play quite fast and has a shredding solo. There is no doubt these guys sit firmly in the thrash pocket and are great representatives of the genre. River of Souls opens with a rumbling bass riff, and some killer guitar playing before returning to galloping riffing. This is the kind of album that gets you speeding tickets.

No last chance is definitely my favorite and has the kind of vocal attack and muted guitar work that always works. It comes in at over 6 and a half minutes too so evidently the band agreed.

New faith leads the B side (not that most of you would understand the concept of that anymore) and it hammers. Purgatory opens with a clean guitar intro which just makes the inevitable heavier part where the bass and drums join in so much more crushing.

This song has the sort of seamless changes that only come from lots of rehearsal and great musicianship.

Woslom has a clear love of the thrash genre and brings some imaginative new interpretations to the table.

Rafael (lead guitar) has some pace in his fretwork but these guys can all play and I cannot really see any weak spots instrumentally. My only complaint was that there were one or two spots where it felt like the singer was pushing his voice into an area it did not suit but overall, an incredibly solid thrash album.
