Enabler – Flies (EP Review)

Enabler - Flies

Milwaukee hardcore/metal/punk crossover

They started in 2009 and have already released a bunch of albums. Enabler clearly is the kind of band that works hard in the black flag tradition. Flies has six tracks, so is probably more of an EP.

Opening with the very short instrumental switch, these guys took me a little off guard.

The title track lets me know what they do with no middle ground though. Flies is a two-minute hardcore fest that will start any moshpit, and the male and female vocals are very intense. Meaningless life also wastes no time with another two-minute classic. Enabler are about aggression and energy, and it’s good. Sickened by the wake starts with barking lyrics before the band joins in. There are some guitar leads but these are really just meant to complement the main ingredient of this band. Which of course is intensity. As their Facebook page says, “The world is fucked and this is the soundtrack to its demise.” Arise is the final track and begins with a menacing guitar riff. It’s my fave already. Arise finishes on a dime, and leaves me wanting more.

I’m checking out their back catalog.

The other album I reviewed before this was something to drive fast to. This is the kind of album you break shit too. Top-notch and one of the best albums in the hardcore genre I have heard for some time.
