Skid Row, the New Jersey kids with punk and metal attitude, were determined to conquer the world and quickly became a household name, releasing some of the biggest and most successful hard rock albums of the 80s and 90s. Back when MTV was everything, the multi-platinum act crashed TV and radio worldwide with hits like “18 and Life” and “Youth Gone Wild”, peaking at #1 on the US Billboard charts with their second album “Slave To The Grind”.
Numerous vocalists have come and gone since the departure of Sebastian Bach but in 2022 the band are back with a new frontman, ex-H.E.A.T. vocalist Erik Gronwall. We talk about his joining the band and the new album “The Gang’s All Here” ahead of their upcoming Australian tour in December.
On how it feels to have joined Skid Row:
I think everybody is actually very happy with the situation right now, there’s a good chemistry in the band and we’re having a good time on and off stage. It feels like I’ve been here longer than I have and I know someone said it feels like I’ve been here forever.
On working on the new album “The Gang’s All Here”:
Pretty much a week after they asked me if I wanted to join the band I got a bunch of songs…just rehearse these songs and record them and my first reaction was it sounds like the Skid Row that I fell in love with. I knew exactly what I wanted to do, I could hear my vocals and I liked that old school approach.
On getting back to touring since the pandemic:
Yeah it’s been crazy and it’s so good to be able to be out to tour again and to meet people and you see all these promoters getting back in business but it’s going to take some time for the industry to recover.
