INTERVIEW: Stix Zadinia of Steel Panther shares wild tour stories

Interview by Andrew Massie

Steel Panther

For the uninitiated, Steel Panther was formed in 2000.  Hailing from Los Angeles, the epicenter for rock n’ roll in all its debauchery and glamour, Steel Panther has established themselves as the world’s premier party band, melding hard rock virtuosity with parody and criminally good looks. Steel Panther is a global phenomenon with four full-length albums, touring across the world, platinum-level You Tube status and high-profile television appearances such as Jimmy Kimmel Live, Larry King Now, and FOX NFL Sunday.

This October Steel Panther return to Australia with Aussie rockers Airbourne in tow and with new music apparently on the way, there was much to discuss as we caught up with drummer Stix Zadinia where he shares some wild stories from the road, how the band dealt with the lack of touring during the pandemic and much more.

On the next new album from Steel Panther:

Stix: This record has a spirit about it, it has a vibe about it where it feels different from the last few records. It feels like there’s a lot of joy in this record and fun and rocking, it’s killer.

On how the band dealt with the downtime during the pandemic:

Stix: We were pretty much as productive as you could be. We did socially distanced shows, pod shows, drive-in shows, live streams. The we’ve worked, we’re grinders, we play live, we’re producers, we make things and do things and sitting on our asses is not comfortable for Steel Panther.

On what fans can expect on the Australian tour:

Stix: We are going to play a new song on tour, you can expect us to come out guns blazing. We got our bass player Spyder who is going to be out with us and we’re going to come with some production. We’re going to come with some killer visual effects, lights, the usual dose of spandex with extra stuffing in the front. We’re going to come with some heat, I can’t wait to play.
