Izthmi - Leaving This World, Leaving It All Behind

A humble but horrific progressive metal assault. Vocally this record sounds black metal when but listening to the band I can’t help but be reminded of the trailblazing post-hard-core bands like Thursday (in their early years) and some of the more metal-leaning posty groups like Fall of Efrafa, Isis, etc.

This is an exciting release for me personally because it’s married this humble yet monolithic sounding guitar sound with this horrifically brutal black metal vocal which just delivers something the aforementioned bands hadn’t really delivered in the same way as Izthmi.

The careful balance of soothing soundscapes from lulling guitar parts, violent vocals, and dynamic instrument breaks really deliver melancholy brutality That’s just so perfect.

For me, it’s a must-have if you’re a fan of the Ambient/progressive heavy music scene.

If you like: Fall of Efrafa, Isis, or any of that dark ambient heavy gear you’ll be super into this. I feel that it has enough appeal to even sate the thirstiest speed junkies as it’s got plenty of energy across the whole piece. It’s just become one of my favorite early morning drive jams. Lots of dynamic, powerful tracks. Get on it

Haters be like:  honestly, if you find something not to like about this release you are trying too hard to find fault in something.
