Kaosphere – Kaosphere (EP Review)

Kaosphere are a 5 piece band hailing from the Gold Coast. They have released a beast of an EP with only 7 tracks, 3 of which are aptly titled The Beginning, The Middle and The End – they are little interludes driving the 4 other songs and adding to a seemingly Orwellian 1984 post-apocalyptic world. A dark place where the human’s race is hanging on by a thread.

The first song is titled Brothers in Arms. Opening with a slow guitar piece with a spoken word introduction asking if his brother has his back. Then shit gets real with a death growl which leads in the riffs. Pure raw aggression and power galore follow, and with that, you have yourself a very strong opening that is deserving of full-on headbanging destruction.

Slay sees more of the pummeling riffs and sometimes a tendency to repeat the same patterns which is a little disappointing because so much more could be done with the track.

Chokehold is up next with more of the same but vocally at times reminds me of a bit of early Coal Chamber with Dez FaFara is the chorus sections.

It may seem that I’m not really digging this EP which isn’t the case. I just feel that it is a little dimensional but the solo in Forsaking Shadows is cool, so the lads can rip. Being a reasonably new band is that they formed in 2015.

The EP from Kaosphere is a solid release and the potential for future face melting is definitely there and this is awesome because I do love my Aussie metal bands.

The musicianship on the EP is tight and very well produced. Vocally is extremely brutal and steeped into the metalcore genre with touches of more death metal tones at times. All this being laid out, Kaosphere in a live setting will rip apart your face and tear you a new one.
