Knife - Wound

Introducing the recent release EP Wound, by Melbourne industrial metal band Knife. Knife is a two-piece comprising Mark Jenkins on vocals and James Salter essentially doing the rest. Wound was released January 10, 2022, and is available on Bandcamp. This is the first release from the band.

I’ll begin by saying that I had a lot of fun listening to this EP.

It’s a thrashy wall of noise and that just does it for me.

Each track is short and sharp. The band state influences from Nailbomb and Godflesh, there’s that vibe but I also had thoughts of Soul of a New Machine era Fear Factory. In fact, I’d say Mark’s vocals are a dead ringer for Burton C Bell, at least in the early days. This is a massive compliment because I love FF and Bell.

Sinners are the standout track for me. I absolutely love the sound of metal on metal that is repeated throughout the track, like someone smashing a hammer.

This sort of sound was an early metal influence for me, so this EP felt like a trip down memory lane. Greed is the most industrial-sounding track, but they really don’t go over the top with the industrial vices. I’d say the EP is as thrash and punk as it is industrial. The whole EP is excellent if you like this sound.

The Wound EP by Knife is a great first offering from the band. I hope they can follow it up with a full album and Australian tour.
