Militaria – Remains With Pain (Album Review)

A one-man solo project from Queensland musician “Chalky” Hill, Militaria has released its unrelenting debut album. Based on the viewpoint of a US soldier seeing the horrors that occurred during the Vietnam War, “Remains With Pain” is a full-on thrash assault from front to back.

The opening track on the album, “Vietnam 1966” sets the stage with a brief explanation about the situation, and from there it’s all guns blazing. Straight into the next track, this album is unrelenting in its speed, aggression and absolute abundance of riffs.

My personal favourites are “Infiltrate Destroy”  and “Huey”, with these two songs showing the greatest number and range of riffs, which will be sure to make you bob your head in agreement. Ranging from flat-out classic thrash to chunky riffs just built for moshing I feel the two are a perfect representation for Militaria. I also appreciate the final one, “Ceasefire Ataraxia” for bringing something different to the table and doing that something different well.

I would love to see Militaria live at some point, and while listening to “Remains With Pain” you can just imagine how punters would react to hearing these songs. I hope Militaria is able to find a permanent lineup soon because these songs are just built for moshing.

If you are a fan of 80’s thrash, you will love this album.
