Our Last Enemy – As Above, So Below (EP Review)

Sydney Industrial Outfit Our Last Enemy and their new release As Above, So Below.

Long time coming indeed. It has been 7 (count em) years since the release of Pariah in 2014. This 5 track Ep is hopefully just a taste of what is to come as it finds the band still in excellent form and still very much in the millennial industrial train of thought, combined with some excellent metal structures.

Never Comin Back is an infectious pit starter full of aggro and huge rhythms, with an emphasis on the huge metal sound they create. The keyboards accentuate the crunch.  It has that element that made the fear factory so vital without overcrowding the music on offer. Long Time Coming brings the electronic elements to the fore completing the hooks of the chorus with Oliver’s massive screams

The Holy ones are probably the highlight. The foot comes off the pedal to explore some more excellent rhythms and double kick work allowing the music to breathe along with some nice subtlety to the vocal work that delves into some massive riffing.

The production is excellent and massive but like all EP’s, just as you get into it all is over. Hopefully, the wait won’t be so long next time.

Three very aggressive Roos.

1. A Thousand Visions 04:34
2. Never Coming Back 05:10
3. Long Time Coming 03:57
4. The Holy Ones 05:12
5. Decline Atrophy 04:02
