PSYCROPTIC – The Watcher Of All (EP Review)

PSYCROPTIC, for those who don’t already know, is a tech death metal band out of Hobart, Tasmania, and have been around since 1999 I believe. The Watcher Of All is a short two-track EP released on November 27th 2020 via Agonia Records.

The opening track A Fragile Existence opens with a short operatic type intro before hitting you with their signature fast-paced furious technical death metal style. The riffs are sharp, the drums are tight & frantic, and the vocals are the traditional aggressive style of Peppiatt. The chorus on this track holds some good melody that gives an atmospheric feel to it, and it sounds as though there are some female backing vocals sitting in behind there also. The Watcher Of All is again a savage offering with neck-breaking groove, technical expertise and brutality.

PSYCROPTIC fans and any tech death metal fan, in general, should be pleased with this release. It is everything you’d expect from these guys. Being only a short two-track offering, it might leave you wanting more, or maybe wondering why there wasn’t more to offer? Either way, I think it’s a good bridge to help keep you wanting more until their next full-length release. The stand out track for me would be A Fragile Existence.
