Hellion – Rebels Curse (Re-Issue Review)

Hellion - Rebels Curse

Hellion comes out swinging with this album entitled Rebels Curse. Somewhat of a pure recording, sounds very jam room polished recording, still, all the elements are there but give you somewhat of a live feeling, which is awesome to hear a band doing that these days, so top-notch boys!!

Summoning starts with a sample of a story then slowly trickling into a sort of war drum roll. They smack into the fast pace riff with no time to lose. Keeping the momentum the vocals slam into the track light a freight train from hell. Nice technical work on the solo section while keeping the pace short but sweet. Then the sudden stop. This has definitely set the listener up to want to hear more.

Bloody torture, bloody riffage, the melody starts straight away then breaks into an early 80s pause style groove riff, vocals blend to the groove perfectly in an awesome style. Drums are a bit off centre which adds a whole different dynamic to the track.

Cool licks over the solo section, give it a well-balanced quality. Fast and slow sections make this song a great stand out track.

The law of the night is a blistering track that once again spits the vocal power at you.

Semi blasts and great riffage. They bring their war to you at the forefront. With catchy riffs and a nice solo finish.

Into the circle of fire brings to the table a roundabout style riff, plam’d riff and nice chugging throughout the track, whammy and fast agile picking, is a song you can really get into at the alike show. Bang ya head and slam the soul material.

Wizards pledge, nice stepping riff, vocals of early days disgust, they crafted this song in such a way that it shows the full power of vocal ability. With a quick pause in the song, to then bring through a cool groove riff to carry out the song.

With the name “Thrash Metal” for the song title you expect something special and believe me.. it is!! You are treated to the insane riffage and thrash style that has made this genre what it is. No shortage of speed in this track, full of momentum, technic and power. Crank it loud for full effect.

Escaping the Oz although sound a bit muddled it has to be a great mix of thrash and black. Both elements can be found in this track, fast vocal sequences and nice trem picking through this track definitely stand out. Under laying bass has added more dynamic to this track as well, with a dirty distortion to set the tone.

The congregation, call the masses and join us, song starts with a cool build up sustained notes. Then comes the groove, jumping from groove into the fast-paced insanity. Drums working overtime, vocals slam in very volatile and strong. Bass attacking the underline. Back to groove for the solo, it’s a slow solo that adds for a great change, slamming back into fast to run the song out.

Hellion even treat you to a cover track at the end call Terror Strikes by Sacrifice.

Hellion continue to produce great thrash in a punishing way, they have definitely captured the genre and have done it justice. Check it out
