Sarke – Allsighr (Album Review)

Norwegians are surely the most creative folks when it comes to black metal, and Sarke’s new release, untitled “Allsighr” is the perfect display of that. The dark and shady atmospheres of black metal is the main component to this album, but the many influences incorporated make it a very unique listen.

The melodicity was never what attracted me, but surprisingly, the use of keyboards and synthesizers caught my ear on this release. The different uses of the diverse elements give the album a solemn and epic atmosphere that overlaps with the darkness and cold of a black metal album. You can feel at times a punky Motörhead-ish ambiance and scraps of the NWOBHM. In other moments of the album, you can sense a taste of the neighbor’s Swedish melodeath tasty melodies. So different yet related, the old-school thrash metal riffs are also predominant in a record all the more eclectic.

All in all, this is a very unique blend of elements, catchy, simple, and straightforward, a hoarse vocal range, and musicians perfectly fitting each other in a complementary way. The production is also very specific to that particular blend making the whole thing a concept to keep an eye for.
