Avalanche – Sent From Hell (Album Review)

Avalanche - Sent From Hell

Sent From Hell is the new ‘Maxi’ EP from Western Sydney rockers Avalanche. Featuring 4 tracks recorded in the studio, and another 4 recorded live on home turf in Western Sydney, it shows a lot of potentials.

When you crack into this first offering, you are struck by a quick and nasty blues-punk vibe in the form of Sold My Soul, a classic tale, involving crossroads, the devil, and playing in a rock and roll band. The rough feel of production (this is a first release don’t forget) evokes an underground, homemade vibe, helped along by the frantic drums, crunchy guitar, and yelled vocals.

This is where Avalanche really shines, in their fast and gritty play, something I wish they had explored more thoroughly because the only real shortcomings are when they slow things down for tracks like On Your Back, Run Like Hell, and Balls Deep. It’s there where the simple playstyle and structure are on display, and unfortunately not for the better.

No, where this band shines is on the chaotic and crazy tracks where the energy they can produce just gets you hyped.

This Maxi EP, while it falls down a little in places, shows us some potential from these rockers with absolutely high energy crackers like Sold My Soul, Down In The Gutter, and Get Back (To Fuckwit City), songs that wouldn’t be out of place at your local venue, and definitely wouldn’t feel out of place driving down the highway, maybe a little too fast, putting your foot down, just a little bit more.
