Deathpoint – Sinister (Album Review)

Deathpoint - Sinister

Hailing from the fine city of Hamilton located in Ontario, Canada, DEATHPOINT is a 3 piece melodic metal outfit that has given us an album of contrasting styles, blends, and pretty much anything to suit all tastes.

It does put you off track a little when you hear Tool-sounding riffs and very much Maynard-sounding vocals to heavy, almost Slipknot-like, attacks with both musicianship and vocals. Albums with these contrasts usually make it really hard for me to listen to but this kept me interested.

Sinister is a well-rounded release even with the many variations in musical styles.

Their online social media profile states that there are 3 members with no mention of the dude or dudette on the skins – I must say it’s a fine job done by the drummer!

Maybe they had a studio stickman or something, but a fine effort all around.

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly who this album may appeal to because it’s sort of floating in between genres… melodic metal maybe… but then it has straight out rock, then again a hardcore element, then a soft thrash piece. With my virgin ears to this sort of style, I’d say fans of metal that’s not all things insanely heavy nor for those who like their bubble gum stuff either – in between, I guess. Whew, it’s hard to put these guys in a certain genre, and here that’s a good thing.

Finishing off: Fellow lovers of all things metal, Deathpoint’s release Sinister is a pretty good effort from these Canadians and will go down very well with those who like their music mixed up a bit and the soft/heavy blended rollercoaster that this album delivers, musically very good, vocals very good, production very good also, bloody hell let’s just say this is very good!
