Edguy – Space Police – Defenders Of The Crown (Album Review)

German Metallers Edguy, have returned to the fold once again with their new album Space Police: Defenders of the Crown. I will admit Edguy is a band whose name I have seen everywhere and have heard people talk about but I have never taken the time to sit down and listen to them myself.

Space Police: Defenders of the Crown was released in April 2014. The album has been described by the band as “their heaviest and strongest album yet.

” This being the first Edguy album I have listened to in full, makes it difficult for me to compare to previous albums. Space Police: Defenders of the Crown as a stand-alone album it shows different sides to the band, with different styles, genres, and themes; Edguy has even added in a cover track 1985’s hit “Rock me Amadeus” by Austrian singer Falco.

As previously mentioned, Space Police has different styles and genres. It seemed that the first part of the album was more of the old power metal style transitioning into an old-style reminiscent to Van Halen, and then into more of easy listening.

Track 7 “Do me like a Caveman” is a perfect example of what I mean with the easy listening style… along with “Alone in Myself”.

Top Tracks on this album would be: “Do me like a Caveman”, the Falco cover “Rock me Amadeus” and my power metal favorite “Defenders of the Crown”. So a good album from Edguy and it seems they put a lot of hard work into this one.
