Tarot reimagines vintage rock n roll for the modern day with its eagerly awaited sophomore album, Glimpse Of The Dawn, 8 years after their first full length album!
Opening with bluesy, Uriah Heep style keyboards, the title track is strong and full of positive energy with the way the guitars and riffs play off each other creating a simple but effective layered effect. There’s no easing into the next track as The Winding Road is explosive right from the opening note, the vocals ringing out clear above all, melodic and powerful against the other instruments and the heavier riffs towards the end really emphasising the classic rock feel.
Leshy’s Warning takes a different approach entirely with an acoustic opening before transitioning into a mellow and earthy electric melody, layered vocals relaying the warning with simple lyrics and a repeated chorus. Echos Through Time really shows the Deep Purple influences with a heavy emphasis on the electrifying keyboards and a steady pumping bassline, taking their own approach to the style with deep, thoughtful lyrics despite the upbeat tone of the instrumental and a false ending.
With track 5 we experience another turn in styles with an entirely instrumental track focused around the acoustic guitar. The Harrier conveys feelings of life but also trepidation throughout the journey of the song with almost alien keyboard effects in the closing notes.
The Vagabond’s Return is a joy for headphone users with a travelling organ opening into heavy riffs sure to get feet tapping and heads nodding, it takes the listener on a journey through the lyrics and musical changes in the song, closing with a long shredding solo and funky keys. Dreamer In The Dark really showcases The Hermit on the drums, simple yet effective, carrying the beat and taking the forefront around 3 minutes in before building back up into a faster groove. The final track, Heavy Weighs The Crown, exudes regal energy and creates a perfectly heavy, fun and flowing relationship between instruments making it the perfect end to an awesome album!
Overall, Glimpse Of The Dawn is a must-have album for classic rock fans and the proof that the highest quality of rock n roll is alive and kicking for future generations!
