The Maledict – Remembrance (Album Reviews)

‘’Remembrance’’ is beautiful and haunting. Its melody is maintained through the heavier sections that compel the listener to move with the music. Musically demanding with adventurous vocals and vocal lines. The Meladict aren’t afraid to take the standard conventions of what is commonly known as doom metal and transform them into individual storytelling moments. Whilst Dolor Nil Finis has deeply rooted within the modern doom metal genre its midsection of the dual vocal melody almost gospel-like and acapella in execution is incredibly daring.

Unafraid to throw in some slam-like sections this Mildura quartet have developed their unique vision and after a six-year wait from their debut, their gothic lyricism is both nihilistic and optimistic nóstos and álgos, the agony and longing to return home.

Emotive and deeply personal things do not get simply more epic than The ‘’Maledict I and II’’, ‘’The river of Ophidian’’ takes the My Dying Bride influence and delivers a mournful monologue that is no less powerful in sparseness, sometimes less is more.

Angry, fearful, and despairing Remembrance is a demanding album that reeks of maturity that has not sacrificed its power for melody. Remembrance is also incredibly heavy and orchestral able to combine its deathly influence with the progressive, be both vicious and beautiful.
