Havok - Unnatural Selection

Think of all the superlatives that you can and times by 5.

Or instead, think of it this way, I listened to this album 10 times in 3 days, such was its impression on me. “Unnatural Selection” is the latest release from USA thrash outfit Havok.

Hailing from Denver Colorado with David Sanchez – vocals/guitars, Reece Scruggs – Lead guitars, Pete Webber – Drums, and Mike Leon – Bass. The album highlights extremely fast tempos, clean and clinically precise riffs, interspersed with Neo-Classical style solos, and never-ending double bass kicks. Its headbangs along and screams air guitars. It starts full throttle and does not let up until the end.

Most of the work cranks at a million miles an hour and the material is very catchy. All work is original except for the metal salute to the almighty Black Sabbath, with a cover of “Children of the Grave”. Two songs on the album caught my ear for their reminiscence of legend bands of the past.

These being “Under the Gun” and “Worse than War”, the former has a rhythm very much of the ilk of “Beating Around the Bush” by AC/DC and the latter gives off a vibe similar to UFO’s “Rock Bottom”.

Of the rest of the album everything is good, but the best of the bunch for me were “Chasing the Edge”, “Give Me Liberty… Or Give Me Death”, “Waste of Life” and the title track “Unnatural Selection”. All of which I am certain will be played on my system many, many times over in years to come.

People do yourselves a favor and give yourself an eargasm. Get this album it is white-hot.
