This is my first introduction to Brisbane’s Storm Messenger and what I have heard I like very much. They are a thrash band with different elements of heavy groove and power metal and, dare I say, traditional heavy metal.

They have released an EP entitled Brace for the Storm – a very apt title as I write this review and I can hear a storm forming outside. Also what they have done is entered the highly competitive Australian thrash metal scene with a very solid EP that stands out.

The EP has 5 brilliantly written songs, well recorded and produced. Each member of the band puts forth a solid performance along with a good old dose of Aussie mongrel into the vocals for good measure. To stand out in the thrash scene you need to be a well-rounded band with catchy tunes. I believe Storm Messenger has the goods on show here.
The first song Into the Light has a cool vocal introduction (PS. I didn’t fire the shot that killed him…thank god).
Through New Eyes has a wicked groove tempo and 55 seconds into the song a changeup which will be brutal in the pit.
In the title track, I reckon the vocalist channelled his inner Chuck Billy when belted out the chorus “BRACE FOR THE STORM…”
Summing up Storm Messenger has done more than enough to prove they are a force to be reckoned with. Good luck guys… \m/
