FALSE MEMORIES – Echoes of a Reflection (EP Review)

Release Date: Dezember 03rd 2021 - Frontiers Music s.r.l.

Italy’s False Memories follow up their debut album with an EP of covers of their favorite acts, tinged with their own goth metal style.

Rossella Moscatello is possessed by the voice of the gods. Her beautifully succinct vocal range elevates Forever Failure into an alluring interpretation of the Paradise Lost classic. Her vocals soar, the perfect counterpoint to the heavy melodies within. It is with the heavier covers that her vocals shine, their version of My Twin whilst musically very loyal is elevated into ethereal territory as Katatonia’s music deserves.

The Gatherings Strange Machines is almost noted for note-perfect that allows the band to shine and stretch musically, whilst their version of Lacuna Coils is probably the only unsurprising track represented. All About Eve’s December is the closer another faultless vocal performance dynamic and full of emotion with elegant solos. This is beautifully powerful goth metal for those who love the genre.

Covers EPs are a tricky beast at best, but whilst we wait for more original material False Memories have delivered a Faultless tribute to their favorites. As an introduction to the band or a holdover, Echoes of a Reflection is more than worthy of your attention.
