Romanian quartet Kultika returns after an eight-year absence with their new album Capricorn Wolves, a rich densely layered organic record that defies easy description.
From the moment Capricorn Wolves begins with the epic yet unhurried ‘’ Building Nothingness Inside Faith’’ a long slow clean build that ends with some of the band’s earlier harshness and black metal leanings. Easily described as post-metal Capricorn Wolves takes standard genre descriptors and just creates music that takes some of the Black metal of the 1990s and throws in some wonderful melodies and clean singing.

At times the vocals are gentle whilst the double kicks build the tension before unleashing their musical power. There are hints of psychedelia in the title track and elements of death metal.
The devil is in the details and the more you relax and let it surprise you the more ‘’ Sounds of Everlasting Desire’’ and ‘’ A Fixed Reality for Prometheus’ Identity’’ reveal their hidden subtleties and varied textures. At times the production fails to match the scope of the music, but it admirably conveys their multi-genre abilities from 70s prog to 80s styled keyboard goth.
