Wolfmother decided they needed to play a gig.  They contacted The Basement in Canberra on Tuesday and said to Mik (manager) can they play on Thursday night?  So, with two days’ notice the comms went out to announce it.  What happened was over 600 people decided, ”Hell Yes, we want some Wolfmother”…

The Basement was rocking on Thursday night when I got there about 7.10, with doors opening at 7 there was already about 200 people inside and getting right into the atmosphere.  By the time Midnight Alibi, hailing from Albury, took the stage and put on a lively set, about 400 people were in the venue.  Midnight Alibi ran through their paces for about 30-40 minutes and warmed the place up nicely playing a rocking set that had the crowd really enjoying their night.

Wolfmother hit the stage at 8.30 and proceeded to have the over 600 strong crowd in the palm of their hands, kicking off with Dimension.  T  It’s been a long time since I’ve seen so many people at The Basement and everyone there was having a great time.  There was a bunch of young guys who had made a two-hour trip to come up for the gig, everyone I talked to had a story and were so stoked to be seeing Wolfmother.  Wolfmother certainly made their nights by putting on a brilliant set that had the whole place seething like a living organism.  For a three piece band, they have a huge sound, and all the crowd added to it by singing along and dancing or banging to every song. It was beautiful to see.

I saw a post of a picture on FB the other day which summed the night up perfectly.  “The best part of a concert is being surrounded by people that feel the same way about the band on stage as you do. You can turn in any direction and talk to a complete stranger and be their best friend 5 minutes later.  We all love the feeling that spreads all over you when that band we all love comes out on stage and plays the songs that saved us when we were down.  That is the best feeling in the entire world.” For the crowd at The Basement on Thursday night, that was it.
