Sydney nu-metalcore rising starts Broken Earth release visceral new single Breathe and take a stand against poisonous people. Introducing itself with a merciless punch to the jugular, Breathe treats listeners to slamming breakdowns, pulsing synths and spine-chilling vocals. The bold new track unleashes Broken Earth’s unique brand of dissonant brutality and pure aggression.
Vocalist Raphael Smith delivers haunting melodies from the deepest depths of rage as he explores confronting themes through his lyricism. Penned from personal experiences of being preyed upon by a gaslighting narcissist at a young age, Smith recounts the crippling anxiety arising from wanting to escape whilst being pulled back into the abuser’s narrative.
“This is the song 16-year-old me wanted to write, I am so glad I got out of that situation” says Smith. “If this song helps one person finally put their foot down it’ll have achieved everything it has set out to do. It’s a mission statement of zero tolerance for malicious intent, zero tolerance for abuse. I don’t want anyone else to ever suffer through hell waking up every day with anxiety knots in their stomach and a sense of dread. Cut out what chokes you, learn to Breathe.”
Produced by Mark Williamson (Inertia, Closure) and mastered by Kris Crummet (Sleeping With Sirens, Dance Gavin Dance), Breathe is the first of a string of new material that will see its release across the course of the next year. Showcasing their sonic evolution, Breathe is a testimony to the band’s dedication and musical prowess, and is yet another crushing addition to Broken Earth’s destructive repertoire.
To celebrate the release of Breathe, the band will showcase their energetic live performance on Saturday May 6 headlining Tamworth’s Heavy Music Night at The Press Basement Bar. The band will be joined by friends in Ghost Complex and Serrated. Tickets are on sale now.
Releasing off the back of their 2022 single BLACK SKIES, a ferocious indictment on Australia’s power sources, Broken Earth found a place performing alongside acts to the likes of Paledusk (JPN), Windwaker, Diamond Construct, The Beautiful Monument and Belle Haven. Last week the band joined Outsider and Proposal in supporting American melodic hardcore heavyweights No Bragging Rights in Sydney.
