Starting the evening at the Zoo with local Andy Martin, singing a blend of ballads & love songs. The strength to be able to hold a stage solo with a guitar is in my books impressive & he did so with ease.
Andy is supporting Clint Boge for 3 shows of his national tour. His 3rd song was I’m used to this & then changing to acoustic guitar to play his title track off his album Reverie.
Treating us with a couple of unreleased numbers – one about his girlfriend intriguingly called Toothache & another about social anxiety I don’t want to go out. Popping in a cover of Powderfingers- My Happiness, gave the early crowd something to sing along to. Finishing with another song off his debut album Dream World.

Another solo star is the incredible guitarist Jack Bratt. Showcasing his talents before joining Clint Boge’s band with backing guitar loops & sharing some songs off his album Slow Release. What a talent! Blessing us with a favourite of mine – Jimi Hendrix’s – Little Wing. Doing the song absolute justice & really making me smile with joy at this little surprise. I enjoyed the rawness of his live performance in comparison to the studio version of his sound on the album. Both highly enjoyable.

Onto the main event the man with the vocals chords of an Angel Mr Clint Boge. Known for being the front man for Butterfly Effect & Like Thieves – tonight we are here for Clints solo works. And what a piece of work they are! Though not like the original recordings as he had a full band supporting him, including keys – what an amazing metamorphosis. Beginning with his first solo EP from 2015 – Songs of a Delicate Nature. Kicking off with Burn. Introducing his son Atlas Boge to come on stage to play acoustic guitar was a highlight for the audience to see such a loving dynamic between Father & Son for Bone Yard. So beautiful to see family members create music together. Bless. Though Clints sense of humour is always a great laugh between songs.
Onto Dance With the Devil such a great progressive love song. Then a classic country reworking of Believe. Cover time with just Clint on vocals & keyboards to do a rendition of Mad World.
Kicking off into the newly released (April 2023) The Final Days of Autumn which has Clint’s amazing melodic song writing skills. Beginning with First Light a tradition of introductory instrumental. Cracking into Bad Day, Anchor then Ghost. Further into the album the moody The Sadness & rocking it out more with Momma Get Your Guns creating a melody with The Doors – Riders on the Storm. Well done!
With a little audience persuasion Clint sang a small portion of Butterfly Effects Beautiful Mine – which unsurprisingly was overwhelmingly received.
The last two songs of the set were Nightfall & a cover of Take On Me. Clint can still hit those bangin high notes – which makes him one of my favourite Australian male singers. Not only a highly talented song writer but his vocal skills are brilliant!
The Zoo gig was the third gig in this national tour so I say if he hasn’t played in your town yet – get along! https://www.clintboge.com/
